Sites You Can Trust

A simple list of legitimate AI websites — and how to avoid fake ones.

4 minute read

There are a lot of websites claiming to be AI assistants. Some are legitimate. Some are scams. Here's a simple guide to the real ones — with the exact web addresses to use.

Trusted AI Websites

These are the main AI assistants from major tech companies. They're safe to use and free to try:

ChatGPT

by OpenAI

Free

The most popular AI assistant. Free to use with optional paid plans.

chatgpt.com

Claude

by Anthropic

Free

Known for thoughtful, detailed responses. Great for longer conversations.

claude.ai

Gemini

by Google

Free

Google's AI assistant. Works well with Google services you may already use.

gemini.google.com

Microsoft Copilot

by Microsoft

Free

Built into Windows and Microsoft products. Uses the same technology as ChatGPT.

copilot.microsoft.com

Tip: Bookmark these sites! That way you'll always go to the real ones.

How to Spot Fake AI Sites

Scammers create fake AI websites to steal your information or money. Watch out for:

Wrong web address

The real ChatGPT is at chatgpt.com — not "chatgpt-free.com" or "chat-gpt-ai.net"

Asking for payment upfront

All the trusted sites above have free versions. If a site demands payment before you can try it, be suspicious.

Asking for too much information

Real AI sites need an email to create an account. They don't need your Social Security number, bank details, or home address.

Pop-ups and urgent warnings

"Your computer is infected!" or "Act now to claim your free AI!" are scam tactics. Close those tabs immediately.

What to Do If You're Unsure

  • Check the web address carefully. Look at the URL bar at the top of your browser. Does it match exactly what's listed above?
  • Look for the padlock. A small padlock icon next to the web address means the connection is secure. No padlock = don't enter any information.
  • When in doubt, close the tab. Go directly to one of the trusted addresses listed in this guide.
  • Ask someone you trust. A family member, friend, or local library staff can help verify if a site is legitimate.
